NEW YEAR HAIR TRENDS

The Season’s Big Blow Out with Blown

It’s that time of year when party season is in full swing and a sea of glitter and sequins make their way out from my closet. Most notably though my hair becomes a top priority this season and my normal flat lacklustre hair just won’t cut it – someone call in the hair SOS please. Luckily for me, I sat down with Creative Director Yogesh Kumar (YK) (and a champagne cocktail) in the ever so chic Blown hair salon

Interviewer: Kay Reynolds (KR) from Styled by Kay Reynolds

KR: What sparked your interest in hair?

YK: When I was 18 years old, I chanced upon the hair industry when I visited a hair styling training academy with a friend who was already studying there.

KR: What are the biggest trends of the season?

YK: This season we are seeing a high demand for long bobs with layers and highlights. Balayage is also a big hit this season for medium to long hair.

KR: Which celebrity style is everyone asking for these days?

YK: The most followed celebrities right now are Kim Kardashian, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor and Virat Kholi.

KR: Which hairstyle do you recommend for winter events?

YK: Definitely go for an elegant red carpet look like a French or Dutch bun. A Messy bun is also good for a more edgy look. If you want something more fun and pretty then I would recommend a waterfall braid or loose side braid.

KR: What products do you use to achieve these looks?

YR: We usually go for pre-styling products like a good volume shampoo and conditioner from a professional range. Post that, we use a good volume mousse and spray from Balmain.

KR: Which hair accessories are perfect for this season?

YR: Pearl hair clips, anything with glitter, polka dot pattern hair clips, floral hair pieces, leaf designs and colourful ribbons – these accessories will really help to add to that festive look.

KR: What hair trends to do you predict for 2020?

YR: The prediction for 2020 is going back to short hair. So shorter styles with point cuts, inverted bobs and geometric cuts with lots of layers.

KR: How can we replenish hair after the Christmas and New Year party season?

YR: A good hair spa every fifteen days is a must as well as using products like Olaplex will help strengthen the bonds of your hair, which could be damaged due to excess heat or chemicals.
